Abstract

Quantum tunneling in nanomagnets finds a natural description in terms of intermediate spin. Periodic magnetic effects correspond to a change of flux by the flux quantum Φ0. Schrödinger cat states with different superpositions of the applied magnetic field occur. The molecular magnet Fe8 is discussed and new effects are predicted for Mn12.
