Abstract
Doubly excited Rydberg series of type in solid neon have been investigated in a synchrotron experiment by combining complementary techniques: Photoelectron and Auger electron spectroscopy served to determine two-hole one-electron series limits, whereas neutral two-electron excitations were measured by electron yield and photon stimulated desorption (PSD) spectroscopy. Gas-solid shifts up to 1.7 eV result. By selecting different ion species in PSD, bulk and surface excitations could be discriminated.
