Abstract
The synthetic equivalents of the paramagnetic states of the active sites of the ferredoxin and high-potential proteins have been created in single crystals. This has been accomplished by induction of in situ redox reactions by ionizing irradiation in the crystal of the compound chosen to be initially in the diamagnetic state. This opens the way for detailed studies with ESR of the magnetic and electronic properties of these important polymetallic iron-sulfur cores.
