Abstract

We present as idealized solvable model for the low-temperature properties of strain defects dissolved in alkali halides. The predicted specific heat and thermal conductivity are very much like those for glasses. Our calculation suggests a strong analogy between the low-temperature properties of strain defects and those of glasses.
