Abstract
We first analyze the Chern-Simons theory for a plasma of anyons. By a dynamical effect the Lorentz force vanishes exactly. Considering the quantization of Chern-Simons theories for anyons we show that the Hamiltonian differential operator contains an important electric term proportional to the curl of the matter current. This term suppresses circular currents and has not been discussed in the literature. We point out its consequences for the ground-state structure and the experimental signals for anyonic superconductors.
