Abstract

It is suggested that the study of the nuclear deexcitation γ rays emitted following K capture may help clarify the nature of the capture mechanism. We consider capture in Pb208 and O16. Capture rates to the various proton or neutron single-hole states in Pb207, Tl207, O15, and N15 are estimated, and the consequences of capture to the isomeric states in Pb207 and Tl207 are discussed.
