Abstract
Electronic structures of (R=La, Ce) has been investigated by using photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and electronic structure calculations performed in the LSDA and the method. The valence-band spectrum of reveals that the electronic states near have mainly La character, in agreement with the LSDA calculation. The Ce PES spectrum exhibits three prominent features at about and We interpret the Ce spectrum as the essentially trivalent Ce spectrum, and identify the peaks at and as the correlation-split states, and the peak as the hybridized states with S p electrons. The CIS and CFS yield spectra show that has formally trivalent ions. Nearly half-metallic nature is obtained for ferromagnetic and the calculation provides a reasonably good description of the electronic structure of Superconductivity in and the absence of the tetragonal distortion in have been discussed based on their electronic structures.
