Abstract

The many-body-enhanced magnetic susceptibility χ(q) has been computed for paramagnetic bcc Mn. An instability toward the formation of a ferromagnetic state at T=0 K is predicted and confirmed by spin-polarized band-structure and magnetic-moment calcuations at several lattice constants. Strong ferromagnetism is predicted in a lattice-constant range larger than approximately 6.0 a.u.
