Abstract
We study the linear and nonlinear optical properties of autoionizing systems under the action of a single-laser field. It is found that the group velocity is greatly reduced by the presence of a neighboring autoionizing state. Conditions for self-focusing or defocusing are also derived for the case of an isolated autoionizing system.
