Abstract

High resolution inelastic electron scattering measurements on Ce140 have led to the identification of a Jπ=12 state at 6.31 MeV. This transition has only 8% of the calculated single-particle strength. The absence of strong transverse excitations is interpreted as evidence for fragmentation of the single-particle strength.
