Abstract

We present measurements on x-ray absorption along with ultraviolet photoemission and absorption spectroscopy for TAl2 compounds with T=Au and Pt. These results plus previous spectroscopic results are discussed in terms of proposed electronic-structure features spanning both sides of the Fermi energy (EF) in these compounds. T(d)-Al(sp) hybridization leading to ‘‘bonding’’ and ‘‘antibonding’’ orbitals form the central element in the proposed electronic structure.
