Abstract

A possible relation between an approximately conserved quantity in the Hénon-Heiles problem and the integrals of the Toda lattice is investigated. A relation good to fifth order exactly and seventh order when averaged is proposed. A form of averaging appears to be significant in the successful construction of approximately conserved quantities.
