Evidence for a Collective $E 2$ Resonance in the Reaction ${}^{208}{Pb} (p, γ) {}^{209}{Bi}$

Abstract

An $E 2$ or $M 1$ resonance is observed in the reaction ${}^{208}{Pb} (p, γ_{0} γ_{1} γ_{2}) {}^{209}{Bi}$ at $E_{p} ≃ 20.0$ MeV ( $E_{x} ≃ 23.7$ MeV) with a width $Γ \sim 3.5$ MeV. Present evidence supports its identification as a collective $E 2$ excitation.
