Abstract

We have described a novel mechanism of the kinklike pressure P(zvt) response of the microsized twisted nematic volume under the effect of externally applied electric field E directed parallel to the restricted surfaces and induced by a strong local disturbance of the director field n̂. It is found that the torques acting on the director n̂ may excite the pressure traveling wave spreading along the normal to both boundaries, whose resemblance to a kink-like wave increases with increasing the value of the applied electric field greater than some critical value Ecr.
