Abstract

The Schwinger-Dyson equation of a Wilson loop is employed to develop an analytic approach in lattice gauge theory. The phase structure of the SU(2) gauge system is studied, and it is shown that there is no evidence of a phase transition in the four-dimensional case, while there is a deconfinement phase transition in the five-dimensional case.
