Invariants of self-adjoint rank-four SU(n) tensors

Abstract

We study the problem of the choice of a linearly independent set of quadratic, cubic, and quartic invariants which is needed for the construction of Higgs potentials. Concentrating on self-adjoint rank-four SU(n) tensors, we derive relations among the corresponding invariants. The generalization of the procedure is proposed as a method of analysis for other representations as well.
