Abstract
Using the Gaussian approximation in a Euclidean functional integration formulation of scalar field theory we show simply how a phase transition occurs related to the occurrence of a composite tachyon. The effect is seen to involve a curious interplay between different solutions of the Schwinger-Dyson equation.
