Mechanism for nuclear excitation by positron annihilation

Abstract

Recently it has been proposed that contributions from inelastic processes can explain the experimental results for nuclear excitation by positron annihilation. We find that these calculations overestimate the cross section for the inelastic process by many orders of magnitude and the mechanism for the excitation process is still an open question.
