Role of quantum vortices in atomic scattering from single adsorbates

Abstract

The scattering of He atoms from adsorbed CO molecules on the Pt(111) surface is described within the formalism of quantum trajectories provided by Bohmian mechanics. We show that the main mechanism leading to the formation of quantum rainbows and resonance enhanced trapping is quantum vortices.
