Abstract

The surface plasmon solution of the hydrodynamic model is reinvestigated. It is demonstrated that the extreme sensitivity of the dispersion on the approximation of the surface profile is intimately related to the nonexistence of the half-space solution if the vacuum region extends to infinity. A remedy of this flaw is proposed.
