Abstract

Neutron inelastic scattering from normal liquid He4 at T=3.1 K and wave vectors in the region 0.2<~κ<~2.2 Å1 reveals the existence of propagating collective excitations, as measured by peaks at finite energies in the dynamical structure factor S(κ, ω). The spectra are in some respects similar to spectra of the superfluid liquid. The relation to other normal liquids, in particular to Rb and Ar, is discussed.
