Abstract
An electron spectrometer fitted with an x-ray monochromator for radiation (1486.6 eV) has been used to record high-resolution x-ray photoelectron spectra for the valence band as well as the spin doublet in silver. The core-level spectrum has a line shape that can be described successfully in terms of the many-body theory of Mahan, Nozières, and De Dominicis. The spectrum agrees well with predictions based on a relativistic-augmented-plane-wave band-structure calculation.
