Effect of atomic isotopes on phonon modes

Abstract

Theoretical calculations derive the effect of atomic isotopes on the phonon modes of a crystal. We derive the well-known formula for the phonon lifetime limited by isotope scattering. We also derive the equation for the influence of isotopes on the dispersion of the phonons.
