Abstract

The Thomas-Fermi (TF) nonlinear differential equation for neutral atoms is reconsidered. A remarkably good representation for the TF exact solution was obtained by means of the Padé approximant procedure. The same approach allows us to make an accurate prediction for the TF initial slope, solving in this way the initial-value problem for the TF equation.
