Abstract

It is shown that the introduction of configuration interaction through 4s4f-4p4d and 4p4f-4d2 mixing has a very significant effect on 3d-4f transitions in highly charged Ga-, Zn-, and Cu-like ions. This effect changes the width and, to a lesser extent, the mean wavelength of transition arrays as compared to the spin-orbit split array model. Because of this mixing, lines previously identified as dielectronic recombination satellites may have a non-negligible inner-shell excitation component. This should be taken into account in models for the intensities of these lines.
