Abstract
The quasiclassical phase shift is identified as the generator of the classical canonical transformation. This illuminates the connection between resonances and looping trajectories and the classical meaning of the time delay and Levinson's theorem. Finally the Coulomb phase shift is derived using for the time delay a free motion with a modified time dependence.
