Abstract

A general discussion is given of the form of the virial theorem when Dirac's equation is obeyed. The result reduces to that found by Fock when, as for example in the case of the hydrogen atom, the wave function tends to zero at infinity. With other boundary conditions, however, an additional term arises, which has not been considered hitherto.
