Abstract
We measure the dipion mass spectrum in decays using of collisions at collected with the CDF II detector. The spectrum is fit with predictions for odd -parity (, , and ) charmonia decaying to , as well as even -parity states in which the pions are from decay. The latter case also encompasses exotic interpretations, such as a molecule. Only the and hypotheses are compatible with our data. Since is untenable on other grounds, decay via is favored, which implies for the . Models for different angular momenta are considered. Flexibility in the models, especially the introduction of interference, enables good descriptions of our data for both and 1.
