Abstract

We perform optical spectroscopy on quasi-1D excitons appearing in low disorder AlAs/GaAs lateral superlattices (LSLs) achieved by organized growth on vicinal substrates. Exciton-exciton couplings are measured by bringing optical levels into resonance in tilted LSLs. In a regime where the large LSL periodicity preserves the 2D Rydberg (EB), we report unexpected splittings as high as 0.37EB (6 times the 2D values). This enhancement of Coulomb interaction is analyzed in terms of valence-band mixing and 1D periodic confinement.
