Abstract

Bound-state β decay was observed for the fist time by storing bare Dy66+66163 ions in a heavy-ion storage ring. From the number of Ho66+67163 daughter ions, measured as a function of the storage time, a half-life of 475+5 d was derived. By comparing this result with reported half-lives for electron capture (EC) from the M1 and M2 shells of neutral Ho67163, bounds for both the QEC value of neutral Ho67163 and for the electron-neutrino mass were set.
