Terahertz radiation induced by subband-gap femtosecond optical excitation of GaAs

Abstract

We have observed terahertz radiation induced by subband-gap femtosecond optical excitation from GaAs. We belive this is due to screening of the surface depletion field by virtual photocarriers (the inverse Franz-Keldysh effect).
