Abstract

A two-dimensional gauge theory which can be coupled to massless fermions is considered. All the features expected in four-dimensional Yang-Mills theory and quantum chromodynamics are found: asymptotic freedom, confinement, and dynamical mass generation. These effects (including the nonperturbative ones) are computed explicitly and exactly.
