Abstract

The distortion of elliptical images by gravitational lenses of finite thickness is addressed and discussed within a spacetime setting. In our model the gravitational field of the thick lens is represented as a square barrier of arbitrarily given strength and range. Comparisons with its corresponding thin-lens analogue are given as well, and some differences between thin- and thick-lens scenarios of estimated physical relevance are evaluated.
