Abstract

The low-spin structure of Nb93 has been studied using the Nb93(γ,γ'), Nb93(n,n'γ) and Zr94(p,2nγγ)Nb93 reactions. Lifetimes were determined from both Nb93(γ,γ') and Nb93(n,n'γ) measurements. Branching ratios were measured, and multipolarities and spin assignments were determined from the Zr94(p,2nγγ)Nb93 angular correlation experiment. From M1 and E2 strengths, the Jπ=9/2+ and 7/2+ states at 1297.1 keV and 1483.6 keV, respectively, are proposed as members of the quintet of mixed-symmetry states associated with the π1g9/2(21,MS+,Zr92) configuration. The large B(M1) values determined in Nb93 cannot be explained within the weak coupling limit of the interacting boson fermion model.
