Abstract

The neutron-induced fission cross section of U237 target nuclide is calculated consistently with the U238(n,F), U238(n,2n) and U238(n,3n) reaction cross section up to En~20 MeV. The fission probability of the U238 nuclide, fissioning in U238(n,nf) reaction is shown to be compatible with the surrogate U236(t,pf) fission probability and ratio of fission probability Pf(U238(d,d'f))/Pf(U236(d,d'f)), data up to En~14 MeV. The U238(n,nf) reaction contribution to the observed 238U(n,F) cross section up to En~9 MeV is defined by the collective levels of the U238 at saddle deformations, lying within the pairing gap. The importance of the lowering of anomalous rotational γ-band Kπ=2+ band levels at saddle deformations is demonstrated. The excitation of the two-quasiparticle states at saddle deformations of the fissioniong U238 nuclide is evidenced.U237 fission cross section is predicted up to En~200 MeV.
