Abstract

We have investigated the behavior of the tunneling conductance between two coupled electron waveguides with a numerical model for a wide range of values of the coupling length. We have then focused on the study of the condition of short coupling length, by means of a semianalytical model, which has enabled us to explain in detail the width and shape of the conductance peaks, in terms of the characteristics of the barrier dividing the two waveguides and of the coupling length. Conclusions are drawn that can provide new explanations for existing measurements and that prompt renewed experimental activities.
