Abstract

The parametric response of energy levels to an external perturbation encodes information about spectral and transport properties. Topological characteristics of the energy levels and wave functions are reflected in properties of the “adiabatic curvature,” which relates to the Berry phase. We derive and discuss an exact analytical expression for the universal contribution to the adiabatic curvature distribution describing general chaotic quantum structures. An analytical and numerical investigation of nonuniversal corrections to the universal result is obtained for weakly disordered conductors.
