Abstract

We have calculated the cross sections of excitons due to elastic scattering by other excitons in semiconducting quantum-well structures of various widths using a finite confining-potential model. In quantum wells whose widths are comparable to the exciton Bohr radius, the behavior of the elastic-scattering cross sections shows trends similar to predictions based on a two-dimensional (2D) model. However, interesting quasi-3D features are revealed in narrow quantum wells.
