Abstract
Exchange coupling between two magnetic planes located in a quantum well is analyzed theoretically within the perturbational approach. Particular attention is paid to the role of electron confinement by external potential walls and of partial confinement within a quantum well between the planes. The coupling oscillates with the distance between the planes and the oscillation period is determined by the Fermi wavelength in the space between the planes only. Neither antiferromagnetic nor ferromagnetic bias were found.
