Abstract

We present a comprehensive numerical study of electroabsorption and electrorefraction in quantum-well modulators. Our analysis properly incorporates both the kp subband matrix elements and the excitonic wave functions and further contains several alternative techniques for solving the exciton equation. Excellent agreement with experiment is achieved in both the discrete and continuum regions.
