Order versus symmetry in pinwheel tilings of the plane

Abstract

This article calculates the Fourier transform of a quasicrystalline solid, the pinwheel tiling, proposed by Conway and Radin. The solid is isotropic, but the Fourier transform has large fluctuations as a consequence of correlations.
