Abstract

We have investigated in great detail the infrared and Raman activity of CdGeP2. From experimental spectra collected at low temperature, we have first identified all Γ1, Γ3, Γ4, and Γ5 frequencies predicted by group-theory arguments. Second, comparing our experimental findings with theoretical predictions for the isoelectronic sequence In0.5Ga0.5P to InGaP2 to CdGeP2, we have discussed the relative strengths of Cd-P and Ge-P bonds compared with In-P and Ga-P, respectively.
