Plasmon excitations in one-dimensional lateral-quantum-wire superlattices

Abstract

We calculate the collective excitation spectrum of a lateral-quantum-wire superlattice in the weak-tunneling limit. Within the random-phase approximation, we derive and discuss the dispersion relation for both intrasubband and intersubband excitations and consider the mode coupling between them. We also discuss how the tunneling effect modifies the plasmon dispersion. Our results agree with the recent far-infrared spectroscopic experiment.
