Abstract

Measurements of a scattering ratio ηT as a function of total calcium concentration were used to estimate the scattering cross section σ of Ca2+ and the calciumcation-vacancy complex as impurities in KBr. As theory predicts, no difference in σ for these species was detected. The experimental σ for these species was 5.9×1026 cm2, about an order of magnitude larger than the theoretical value.
