Abstract

We propose a time-dependent level-crossing approach to the generation of high harmonics by a two-level system which stresses the periodicity of the processes involved. We establish relationships between multiple Landau-Zener crossings of energy levels and features of high harmonic generation such as cutoff, conditions for a plateau, and plateau height.
