Abstract

We predict and confirm numerically the existence of shape-invariant Rydberg wave packets in the hydrogen atom in a strong linearly polarized electromagnetic field. They correspond to similar wave packets recently discussed for the same quantum system, but when the electromagnetic field was circularly polarized. The trajectory of the packets is elliptical within the present approximation and the parameters of the ellipse are found. For every electric-field strength there is a twin pair of states.
