Abstract

Longitudinal-acoustic-wave oscillations on circular and linear segments of DNA are analyzed for a Boussinesq model which includes both the effects of dispersion and of anharmonicity. Expressions are obtained for the frequency spectra of anharmonic (soliton) modes. These results may help to explain details of the microwave absorption spectra of DNA.
